Choosing Accommodation in Montenegro
Since you’re reading this post, you’ve probably already started planning your trip to Montenegro, looking into accommodation options, and no doubt you’ve fallen in love with the stunning bay-view accommodations you’ve seen on Google and YouTube, right? When researching places to stay, platforms like booking.com, hotels.com, and Airbnb allow you to easily compare prices, locations, and customer reviews, helping you find the perfect spot for your stay.
Before our trip, we had a picture in our minds: to fully embrace the tranquility and beauty of the Bay of Kotor, and to experience not only the sights but also the peacefulness of this unique landscape. We wanted this journey to be more than just sightseeing — it was about resting our souls in this remarkable setting.
In our imagination, we pictured ourselves lounging on the balcony, gazing at the breathtaking view, and watching the sunset over the bay. Even strolling through the streets of Kotor, just thinking about that ideal scene brought us peace. In short, this trip was more than just a vacation for us; it was going to be a soul-nourishing experience. We couldn’t wait to embark on this new adventure.
Which Area Should I Stay in Kotor?
Since we rented a car in Montenegro, we made the choice to travel freely, regardless of proximity to public transport. We stayed in Dobrota, located between Kotor Old Town and Perast, which we had researched thoroughly before visiting. What attracted us to this area was its quiet, fisherman village atmosphere, and the stunning, expansive view.
My Thoughts on Other Locations:
Budva – If you’re going for beach tourism in the summer, Budva is undoubtedly the place with the clearest waters and the best beaches. Its Old Town is similar to Kotor’s. As you move inland, you’ll find new settlements and buildings that might remind you of Antalya.
Tivat – Tivat is characterized by high-end venues, luxury hotels, and its marina. We dedicated half a day to explore Tivat, and in our opinion, it feels far removed from the medieval charm and bay of Kotor.
Perast – If you want to stay in a fairytale town with your spouse or partner, Perast on the Bay of Kotor should be your choice. There are even honeymooners visiting, so if you’re reading this, make sure you go there! =)
Kotor – If you prefer to explore without a car and want easy access to everything, staying in Kotor Old Town is a great option. This way, you won’t have to worry about transportation for the main part of your trip. There’s also a small bus terminal here, making it easy to walk to other locations.
