If you want to add a touch of culture to your summer vacation while enjoying the sea and sun, you must visit Phaselis. Located in Kemer and just 33 km from Adrasan, this ancient city was once one of the most important port towns of Lycia.
There are so many impressive structures in this ancient city that while exploring it, you can follow the traces of history and witness the past. Even while swimming in the sea, you’ll feel surrounded by its historical charm.
Editor’s Note:
Phaselis Ancient City is not only popular with those coming to explore the ruins but also with visitors who want to spend the whole day swimming and having a picnic. If you’re visiting during peak season, be prepared to wait in a long line at the entrance. The area is ideal for families and picnic-goers, with its shallow, sandy beach and calm waters. Thanks to the abundance of large trees, you can find plenty of shaded spots in the morning without needing an umbrella. The beach itself is sandy as well.
If you prefer avoiding sandy beaches and shallow waters, there is another section where you can swim after touring the ancient city. I personally prefer this spot. Upon entering the parking lot, use the entrance to the ancient city (through the arches). The advantages here are enjoying the shade of the trees, staying closer to your car, and experiencing the historical atmosphere more intimately. It’s also an ideal spot for snorkeling.
